Ah, another weekend, another homemade pie! Last weekend Emma and I made a fresh peach pie from scratch, which was a hit at a dinner party later that night. This weekend, we tried our hand at a key lime pie with graham cracker crust. Fun! Fresh! Delicious!
While shopping for a few baking supplies, I realized that the local Meijer has remodeled itself into a Wal-Mart clone right under our noses! The aisles seem awkward, the brands cheaper, the employees grumpier and the clientele trashier. Red, white and blue seems to have supplanted their former yellow, orange and red color scheme, and even the endcap signs have that discount, ‘rolling back the prices’ ugliness. Horror! Silly me, I thought they’d be smart and emulate Target.
Sunday, we enjoyed the cool breeze, warm water and bright sunshine of the beach before discovering some quaint cuisine at a NE Indiana lakefront eatery. Times change, but some places retain their charm. Last night: pie for dessert. This morning: pie (and cereal) for breakfast.
