1997–2005 : Back Catalog

During this period, my studio consisted of an akai mpc2000 sampler/sequencer, Novation Bass Station analog synth, Korg Prophecy digital synth, Nord Lead 2 rack synth and Micro Modular synth, Yamaha TG-33 rack synth, Mackie 1604-vlz mixer, Digitech studio 400 multi-effects and RDS-4000 digital delay, Alesis Microverb 3 multi-effects, Presonus stereo compressor, Aphex quad gate and Sony mini-disc recorder. From the end of 2002 until mid 2005, I took a sabbatical to work on other creative projects and research.

Most of my back catalog of original electronic music is available (as a free download or streaming playlist) through the Netlabels project on the Internet Archive under Jeffrey Melton.

Recorded and released in 1997 on CD-R, Being combines elements of ambient, chill-out, IDM, and techno styles. A number of years ago, I created some imaginary character concepts, loosely inspired by the idea of spirits or ‘Loas’ from Voodoo stories. I did some automatic writing and came-up with about ten or so ‘beings’, complete with names, traits and behaviors (largely nebulous and indistinct). New mythical creatures from my unconscious, so to speak. This entire album is an audio journey through the world of such digital ‘beings,’ though each song has its own mood and character.
